2024/2025 FMS Learning Series
Inclusion Alberta’s Darell Cook Family Managed Supports Resource Centre presents:
Exploring Employment Opportunities for Creating Meaningful Employment
Workshop Presenters: TBD
Date: February 8, 2025
Time: 10:00am-3:00pm
Location: Inglewood Community Hall
Join us in a session where we focus on how families, networks and FMS or FSCD support staff can collaborate and search for job opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Employment is a vital part of life for most people, providing not only a source of income but also a sense of purpose, belonging and the opportunity for connection and friendship. We will offer practical guidance on how to harness the resources available through FSCD and FMS to develop jobs and ensure effective on-the-job support. Families, FMS staff or FSCD staff are encouraged to attend and learn how to successfully support individuals with intellectual disabilities to obtain meaningful employment.
This event will uncover how to leverage networks by tapping into existing connections and communities to discover job possibilities and provide effective techniques for engaging potential employers. Participants will discover how to find or craft employment possibilities that align with the individual’s unique value they bring to the workplace. We will discuss practical strategies for both families and support staff to ensure employment success. Additionally, the session will explore ways to facilitate natural supports within the workplace, encouraging the development of organic support systems that contribute to long-term success.
