Inclusive Recreation

Recreation is an important part of development for all children as it provides opportunities to pursue interests, learn new skills and make friends. Let us help your team become a more inclusive recreation provider.

Communities in the province offer a variety of recreational activities for children and adults. From community sport programs, art and leisure activities to seasonal camps, the list is large; and many families take advantage of these opportunities. However, what seems ordinary for most individuals and parents is not typical for those who have a family member with an intellectual disability. For individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families to be included in sport and recreation, community leaders and program directors must foster a welcoming environment open to all community members’ participation. Inclusion Alberta partners with community recreation providers to build their capacity to welcome and include children or adults with intellectual disabilities.

Our team is available to help individuals and families explore their interests and to support organizations, community groups, schools or municipalities to become more inclusive, ensuring success for all participants.
