Connecting with people and being social is fundamental to our well-being as humans. Relationships provide us all with emotional support, a sense of belonging and opportunities for personal growth. Engaging with others also combats feelings of loneliness and isolation.
Join us for a session as we explore the power of meaningful relationships for individuals with intellectual disabilities. This session will offer strategies and ideas for fostering community participation and how to connect people through community opportunities based on shared interests and abilities. We will explore how identifying individual interests and talents can be a powerful catalyst for creating new friendships and building a sense of belonging.
Together, we will unpack the significance and potential of normative pathways for individuals with intellectual disabilities relating to leading fulfilling lives in community. Participants will learn effective techniques for promoting meaningful inclusion and cultivating an environment to encourage friendships. This is an opportunity for both family members, FMS staff or FSCD staff to gain valuable tools and insight to facilitate genuine connections in community.
