Being meaningfully employed in a good job helps to give purpose to life and affirms a valued place in society. Opportunities for people with developmental disabilities to pursue employment reside in leveraging our personal and professional networks in the community. The Inclusion Alberta Family Resources Centre – Grande Prairie & Area works with families and individuals to engage their personal networks and the community to generate meaningful employment opportunities for their family members with developmental disabilities.
Families utilize Family Managed Support (FMS) resources to hire support staff to effectively create employment possibilities and provide on-the-job support to ensure success when and where needed. More and more employers recognize the benefits of hiring individuals with developmental disabilities and are becoming leaders in their industries.
This in person interactive session will provide information and resources for families, individuals, and FMS staff. The session will offer an opportunity to share ideas with others in the Grande Prairie region who support their loved ones with developmental disabilities to have every opportunity for employment, contribute, earn an income and be a valued community member.
Session topics include:
- Creatively linking interests, strengths, or passions to potential job roles
- Engaging your network
- Approaching potential employers
- Facilitating natural supports in an employment setting
Families, individuals, and FMS staff are encouraged to attend.
Snacks provided. Space is limited to allow for physical distancing. Please register in advance.
