Inclusive Employment: Tevin at Viking Automotive in Medicine Hat
Tevin has passion, enthusiasm, skills and knowledge about automotive work, and with the support of Inclusion Alberta’s Inclusive Post-Secondary Education initiative at Medicine Hat College, has been able to start his journey of making a career out of it!
Tevin is entering his third year in the Automotive Service Technician Program at Medicine Hat College and has been a trusted full time employee at Viking Automotive in Medicine Hat since 2023.
At Viking Automotive, Tevin says he enjoys assessing vehicles, going through the process of diagnosing and fixing issues, and seeing the finished results. He finds it rewarding to see customers leave the shop happy and takes pride in working on a variety of vehicle makes and models rather than focusing on just one brand. He has learned a lot from his colleague Rob and shop owner Kevin, from recharging air conditioners, fixing water pumps, HVAC boxes, block heaters and blowers and everything in between and has been able to share his knowledge of power tools with them as well. Tevin sees himself continuing to grow in this field, motivated by his strong passion and enthusiasm for automotive work.
Shop owner Kevin says that Tevin’s employment has grown into a trusted partnership. He often asks Tevin to pick up parts for him, open and close the shop, and invites him to come in on weekends to work on side projects or his own vehicle. While Tevin is away for his eight-week technical training, Kevin has offered him the opportunity to work on weekends to earn extra income, even though the shop is usually closed.
Congratulations to Tevin on the beginning of a bright career in the automotive industry, and to Viking Automotive on your tremendous team member!
