Letter to Prime Minister Trudeau

May 21, 2020

In response to COVID-19 the Government of Canada has rightly announced Federal financial assistance to many sectors impacted by the Pandemic, including businesses, students, essential services workers, individuals impacted by the loss of employment, people experiencing homelessness, indigenous communities and most recently seniors. We know that individuals with developmental disabilities and their families have also experienced additional and unique financial impacts as a result of the pandemic, many of whom were finding it difficult to make ends meet before COVID-19. The federal government needs to provide financial support to people with disabilities and their families, just as it has for other populations disproportionately impacted by the pandemic.

The Federal Government needs to hear from the disability community about this urgent need. Inclusion Alberta has sent a letter to Prime Minister Trudeau and Finance Minister Morneau calling upon them to respond to the need of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families, and we ask that you consider doing so as well. The easiest way is to send emails to: justin.trudeau@parl.gc.ca and bill.morneau@parl.gc.ca.
