PDD Safety Standards Repeal: Minister officially ends extra inspections December 30, 2016

January 3, 2017

A ministerial Order, effective December 30, 2016 officially amended the Exception Regulation under the Safety Codes Act.  Residences of individuals with developmental disabilities are to be treated the same as any other home when interpreting and applying safety codes.  No further inspections should take place in these homes unless there is a request, an incident or a complaint, just like any other house.

This order supports the PDD Consultation Team’s final report, which recommends residences of individuals with developmental disabilities be treated the same as any other home when interpreting and applying safety codes.
