This session will provide an overview of creating a life-enhancing vision and describe the initial plans and actions needed to move forward when using formal support. More and more employers recognize the benefits of hiring individuals with developmental disabilities and are becoming leaders in their industries. \nThis in person interactive session will provide information and resources for families\, individuals\, and FMS staff. DESCRIPTION:Registration is now open for the 2022 Inclusion Alberta Virtual Family Conference\, April 8-9! The conference is a time for families\, educators and service providers from all over the province to deepen their knowledge and commitment to assisting children and adults with developmental disabilities to live fully inclusive and meaningful lives in their community. The Conference is the largest and longest standing of its kind in the world\, with over 800 people attending in the past. \nThe conference features workshops on Friday from feature speaker Al Condeluci\, a variety of morning and afternoon sessions to choose from on Saturday and Youth for Inclusion\, a workshop for youth aged 16-22. In addition to the workshops and sessions listed\, the Virtual Family Conference will also offer several fun opportunities for you to socialize\, network and build relationships and connections with Conference attendees as well as speakers. \n*Unfortunately\, due to unforeseen circumstances Dr. Vicki Knight is unable to attend this year’s Family Conference.* \nThere is one General Admission ticket price ($50+ applicable service charges) for the Virtual Family Conference. Ticket purchase will give recipient access to Conference website and schedule planner plus all workshops\, sessions\, events and materials offered during the conference April 8-9\, 2022. Only one registration will be needed per device/screen. DESCRIPTION:Inclusion Alberta Family Resource Centre – Grande Prairie and Region and the Darrell Cook Family Managed Supports Resource Centre present the FMS Learning Series: \nPositive Approaches\nDate: Saturday February 12\, 2022 \nTime: 9am to 12pm \nVirtual – REGISTER HERE \nWorkshop Presenter: Arne Fulton\, Complex Needs Coordinator \nAll behaviour is a means of communication. When we start to uncover what the behaviour is trying to tell us\, we become much better at meeting the needs of people with developmental disabilities who have been labelled as having ‘challenging behaviours.’ \nToo often\, people with developmental disabilities’ efforts to communicate their needs result in behaviour that is identified as challenging or in the individual being identified as having complex needs. Targeting and addressing behaviour in this way puts people at risk of having their needs ignored\, being isolated or openly punished for trying to meet their needs. As a result\, individuals with developmental disabilities\, sometimes compounded by mental health and other challenges\, are often identified with complex behaviour and find themselves living very restricted and chaotic lives. \nArne Fulton\, Provincial Coordinator of the Complex Need Initiative will share how Inclusion Alberta works with families\, individuals\, and service providers to develop meaningful and thoughtful positive approaches. These approaches have brought stability\, home\, and more meaningful community engagement to support the lives of people with developmental disabilities identified with having complex needs. He is passionate about public education and has dedicated his career to advancing equity and inclusion. Presently\, he is the Lead Program Manager of Startup Edmonton and the EPSB Trustee for Ward H. \n#Rising Youth: \nRisingYouth is a program to help young people nationwide who are inspired with ideas and ready to take action through youth-led community service grants. The program is currently funded to offer grants through March 2022. The program is funded by the Government of Canada under the Canada Service Corps initiative.
