SUMMARY:Positive Approaches (FMS Learning Series\, Calgary)
DESCRIPTION:2024/2025 FMS Learning Series  \nInclusion Alberta’s Darrell Cook Family Managed Supports Resource Centre presents:   \nPositive Approaches to Behaviour \nWorkshop Presenter: Arne Fulton  \nDate: November 2\, 2024  \nTime: 10:00am-3:00pm  \nLocation: DoubleTree by Hilton 2120 16th Avenue NE  \nRegister online here. \nBehaviour serves as a form of communication\, expressing needs\, emotions\, or thoughts that may not be conveyed through words. The mislabeling of individuals as having challenging behaviour or complex needs can result in their individual needs being overlooked\, resulting in isolation or even punishment for their attempts to communicate.   \nJoin us in a session where we discuss the critical issue of how individuals with intellectual disabilities are often misunderstood and mislabeled. We will introduce thoughtful and positive approaches\, used by Inclusion Alberta in collaboration with families\, individuals\, FMS or FSCD staff and service providers.  \nBy adopting positive approaches and reframing how communication is perceived and responded to\, participants will be better equipped to support people to lead more stable and fulfilling lives in community and at home. The session will uncover key concepts and methods\, such as understanding the connection between loneliness and unmet needs\, applying Trauma-Informed Care practices\, recognizing behaviour expression as a form of communication and reframing behaviour descriptions as a way of communication.    \nRegister online here.
