SUMMARY:Exploring Opportunities for Creating Meaningful Employment (Calgary)
DESCRIPTION:2025/2026 FMS Learning Series  \nInclusion Alberta’s Darrell Cook Family Managed Supports Resource Centre  presents:   \nExploring Opportunities for Creating Meaningful Employment   \nEmployment is about more than just a pay cheque – it provides purpose\, a sense of belonging\, and chances to connect and build relationships. In Alberta\, many individuals with intellectual disabilities face significant challenges in securing employment\, often due to limited opportunities and support in finding and maintaining work. These barriers frequently lead to an 80% unemployment rate for people with intellectual disabilities.   \nThis session will share inspiring stories from families who have utilized their networks\, individualized funding (FMS or FSCD)\, and partnerships to create and sustain employment opportunities for their family members with intellectual disabilities. Attendees will leave with insights and practical strategies to pursue employment opportunities and collaborate with FMS/FSCD support staff to plan and take action. Families\, individuals\, FMS or FSCD staff are encouraged to attend and gain tools for supporting people with intellectual disabilities to secure and maintain meaningful employment.  \nKey concepts include:   \n\nVisioning and planning for successful employment opportunities  \n\n\nIdentifying and creating employment opportunities through networks and community connections  \n\n\nUsing FMS or FSCD resources to establish and sustain jobs  \n\n\nHow to take action\, engage with an employer\, share the business benefits of inclusive hiring\, and respond to “no”  \n\nWorkshop Presenters: Courtney Kachur\, Issi Ranieri\, & Sydney Bachynsky  \nDate: October 18th\, 2025  \nTime: 10:00 am – 3:00 pm   \nLocation: Inglewood Community Association Hall\, 1740 24 Ave SE\, Calgary AB  \nRegistration Link:   \nhttps://forms.office.com/r/Vp4zBJJ3S1
