Educational Art Facilitator - Inclusive Post-Secondary Education – The King’s University

Inclusion Alberta, in partnership with The King’s University, is seeking a temporary, part time (30 hours per week), with the possibility of extension Educational Facilitator to support the inclusion of a student with an intellectual disability. The Educational Facilitator will contribute to a team that facilitates the inclusion of students with developmental disabilities in all aspects of academic and campus life within The King’s University community.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate meaningful and independent student participation in a wide range of classes but with a particular focus on visual arts. For example, help student prepare so they contribute to class discussions and coursework, help student to participate in group assignments, etc.
  • Support student to develop strategies to explore personal style and art expressionism through an independent art study
  • Facilitate relationships amongst classmates by helping student with an intellectual disability to participate in a variety of learning activities, campus activities, events, club, associations, etc.
  • Help the student contribute to and benefit from all aspects of campus
  • Collaborate with faculty, post-secondary staff, and student’s’ family to support the student's full engagement and active membership in their specified program of study
  • Help the student contribute to and benefit from all aspects of campus
  • Provide support to faculty members and instructors to develop individualized course expectations, modifications, and adaptations to support student learning, engagement, and relationships with classmates
  • Network and collaborate with faculty members, employers, and other community members to develop employment and career opportunities in the local arts community
  • Support student, employers, and co-workers in different job sites to ensure positive employment experiences for everyone involved (i.e.) the Alberta Gallery of Art, other local studios, childcare settings, etc.
  • Strengthen and foster community capacity for meaningful inclusion of people with developmental disabilities
  • Actively collaborate with and positively support team members
  • Regularly & actively engage in critical reflection and dialogue (both individually and as a team member) about inclusion
  • Support student with personal care needs and provide direct facilitation with health, well-being and dietary considerations

 

Qualifications:

  • Deep & abiding commitment to inclusion (as demonstrated by one’s experiences, participation, and contributions to community)
  • Post-Secondary education and experience in the field of Fine Art and/or Visual Arts is strongly preferred
  • Experience with Inclusive Post-Secondary Education, and/or community development and/or inclusion
  • Exhibit the highest level of professionalism
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, collaborative, networking, and organizational skills
  • Dedicated learner, reflective practitioner, and committed to one’s professional development
  • Adept at managing stressful, complex, and ambiguous situations
  • Astute critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities
  • Can work effectively both independently and collaboratively
  • Comfortable with public speaking and community development
  • Regularly and quickly prepare written reports for multiple audiences
  • Hours of work are primarily during the day but the positions does require some evening and weekends shifts - so flexibility in this regard is strongly preferred
  • Current criminal record clearance is required and personal vehicle is a valuable asset

 

This is a temporary, part time, position for 30 hours per week. Competition will remain open until a suitable applicant is found. Only applicants who are short-listed will be contacted.
